Julie & Julia « Thread Started on Aug 16, 2009, 11:03pm »
I want to see this movie,so much. Julia Childs was always on our old TV,as I was growing up. My fond memory of deskinning a COW'S tongue before baking it in the oven. I thought my grandma was mean for cutting the heads off of chickens for dinner, was terrible. But very interesting. Julia was the Paula Dean or the Barefoot Contessa of today. They'd never hack into a animal like our grandmas and great grandmas use to. Meryl Steepe seems to have her voice and actions down real well. It just seems to have some twist. Which is why I'd like to see this movie. My daughter bought the book,a few weeks ago. She loves it. If she thinks that, then that's good enough for me.
Later,I'll read it,we compare what we think about both, movie & book.

I've heard of it, and I'd also like to see it. Actually I would buy a ticket to see Meryl Streep read the phone book. A friend of mine who saw it said that the Julia part was interesting; the Julie part not so much.
Liz, that was a good story about your grandmother, the peeled tongues and the beheaded chickens. My mother grew up on a ranch, and she remembered things like that. When the milkman came to their house, it was to pick up milk, not deliver it.

Larry, you need to get out more!
Julia Childs did the cow's tongue. Yes,my grandma would hack off their heads. My sister & I would watch, then run into the woods where she thru the head. It would cluck & move alot. Nerves I guess. Once or twice, the chicken would get out of the bag,Grandma placed it in,til it settled down. This poor chicken would run all around the big yard, headless. Blood spraying all over. That's what we grew up with. My father's mother butchered pigs. Which is different, but still YUK. Still amazes me today, that I love chicken & pork. Seriously. That funny about your milkman.
Best part about raising chickens.............were the peeps. Loved them alot. So adorable.
